Springtime

from Ribbons - The LP by Elikah

lyrics

Hello there springtime,
it's been a while, a while since we met
at the back of a bar,
Where I've been just drinking to regret
Has the story been cast and all the magic been set?
'Coz if so I don't wanna know'
I spat in my bourbon breath

And we're falling faster
Than love could master
The wind the tempest roaring high
The tumult of a tropic sky
Might be dangerous news for you
If you aspire to feel the truth

They threw me out through the door
I hit the ground with a crash
While wiping sweat from my brow
Night and day shook hands
The morning symphonies sound and all the church bells begin
I pull myself to my feet
It is the first day of spring.

Icy scales of winter and flecks of muddy slough
Melted and dried in the sun I shed them now
Like snowdrops bursting clod I rise from clay
And drip with gutter earth and fling these chains astray
My arms defy the clod and fill with blood
Like living sceptres to rule the day
